How To Ace Your Next Job Interview

Since the recession of 2008 began (the one that has in fact continued on into 2010), unemployment has become a massive and major problem throughout the country. More people are out of work now than just about any time in our country since the Great Depression which makes now more than ever a great time to brush up on your interview skills in order to get back into the job market or upgrade to a better job altogether.

One good tip is to supplement your resume with a one-page highlight sheet. Resumes are great but employers see them by the thousands. Creating a quick highlight sheet may be a way for you to stand out from the pack. Basically this sheet should just contain a quick list of your most recent accomplishments in reverse chronological order. Not only does it help you stand out but it can act as a script or "talking points" list for your interview.

Another good tip is to let the interviewer talk themselves for the first five minutes or so. It"s second nature to want to talk about yourself as much is possible to make yourself stand out... or to sell yourself. But sometimes it"s important to just be quiet and listen to the employer or interviewer talk because they can give you some helpful clues as to what they"re looking for. A good way to get them talking is to ask questions yourself.

These days you can expect to be interviewed by several different people throughout the company. Often times lower level people will interview you first, followed by higher up seniority level people. If this is the case try and ask the person you"re talking to at the moment a couple of questions about the next person you"ll be interviewing with so that you have a basic understanding of what to expect.

Finally after your interview is over you should always send a thank you note. Recent studies suggest that only about a third of job candidates bother to send thank you notes. Studies have also suggested that nearly 3/4 of executives from the nation"s 1000 largest companies said that they would consider a thank you note somewhat helpful when evaluating job candidates. The lesson here is quite simple... a thank you note can add to your chances and help distinguish you from the pack. Hey, every little bit helps!

So there you have several very simple job interview tips that you can use right away. Hopefully these tips and tactics will help you get your foot in your and get that job you"ve been hunting for.
