Anyone Can Join The Police Force
Generally, people do not want crimes and campaign against it but not everyone can face a criminal in an arm to arm combat. Holding a gun requires certain measures in order to ensure that it will be used responsibly. You should not take this to mean however, being a police officer is all about guns. This is just to say that most criminals are armed and dangerous and police officers undergo special training in order to combat them. Civilians are not encouraged to attempt to challenge an armed criminal. Joining the force to become a police officer does not require minimum or maximum height nor does it require you to have a formal education. If you decide that you do not want to enter the University at 18, you are welcome to apply for the police force. Your background and skills will be treated as potentially useful by the force as they are constantly in search of officers having wide variety of skills. When you apply to become a police officer your first step would be to fill up the police application form. After that, you will be called for an assessment, in an assessment centre where you will submit yourself to physical and mental tests. Approximately, the assessment will last for four to five hours. Also, this assessment is standardized across 43 forces in England in Wales so that you will take the same one regardless of what force you are applying to. If you pass the assessment you will next fill up a questionnaire regarding your medical history. A medical officer will evaluate your medical history and as soon as he or she declares you qualified, you will be asked to undergo a full medical with the mandatory alcohol and drug tests. Some of the forces will include a fitness test in the assessment center but if you have not had one yet at this point, you will be asked to complete one.
After completing and passing the assessment you will then be asked to accomplish a questionnaire regarding your medical history. After a medical officer evaluates your medical history and is satisfied, you will be asked to take a full medical including alcohol and drug tests, which are mandatory. If you have not completed a fitness test in the assessment center you will complete one at this stage. After all of the tests are accomplished, your force will send you a "candidate feedback" detailing how you did in the test.
