5 Steps to Create A Winning Resume

1. Create the heading. This is the easiest part of making a resume.  If you forget it, however, you are in serious trouble.  Simply write your name and contact information at the top of the resume.

2. Write career objective statement. These are the first words that a potential employer will read that lets them know about you.  Here is where you can add what you are looking for in this job.  As well, let them know how this position fits into your overall career goals.  Make sure this is only a couple sentences.

3. Include employment and educational history. Here you should list your previous 5 employers, as well as any educational institutions you attended.  For employment, include your responsibilities in that position, as well as your official title.  This section can include your professional and educational accomplishments as well.  However, you should keep these limited to items that relate specifically to the position you are applying for.

4. Make the resume easy on the eye. Your resume should look professional and easy to read.  Use an easy-to-read, basic font with a black color.  Also, your resume may be viewed both in-person and on the computer.  Check to ensure that it looks great in both mediums.

5.  Don"t give away any personal information. Specifically, this means not including any demographic information.  For example, do not include your age, race, marital status, or similar information.  This information is not necessary for your potential employer to know at this stage.

Since the resume is such an important tool, you must put in time creating it.  Also, remember to have other qualified people read over your resume.  If you have errors on your resume, it just may end up in a trashcan.
